Happy Candy Day!

I'm not big on Halloween.

I don't like ghosts, witches, monsters or evil looking things. Basically I just don't do scary, period, so that being the case I've been predisposed to avoiding halloween festivities in the past... this year I went so far as to get myself a friendly looking scarecrow that has a huge smile on his face and bounces around when you tap him on his head, but that's been about it.

I am however big on cute little kids... so tonight Kev and I are going to be handing out candy for the very first time together... to all the little trick or treaters that ring our doorbell and I can hardly wait to see the little munchkins, so happy candy day everyone, it's a lot less scary that halloween, at least in my world. ;)

This is rediculous. There's been around 15 kids so far... and TWO of them have had costumes.

Unbelievable!!

I think the little Spiderman tot that showed up, and the little fairy princess [complete with wings] made the evening worthwhile.

I was gonna snap some pics but I didn't think the parents would approve. :)

Some of the trick-or-treaters didn't even say "trick or treat" they just rang the door bell and opened their pillowcases.

I'm surprised that our tree wasn't strung with toilet tissue this morning, Kev kept asking everyone where their costume was and only gave them a single candy if they didn't have a good enough explanation. :)

Oh and we definitely had an adult trick-or-treater that made her own mask and came with her kids, oh and she asked for candy too.

Heh. Ah well, Candy Day is just an indication that Christmas isn't too far away. Yes, presents day, can't wait! :)

This is what I'm talking about. It's all about the candy grab. Greedy little brats. I wasn't home last night, but even if I had been my porch light would have been dark. My co-workers say I'm steeling the fun away from the kids, well your stories have only confirmed that it's not about the costumes and the adventures, it's all about the candy. I just can't get into that.

That's just it though... the little kids with the costumes deserve to have the night and the people to see them.

It shouldn't be ruined by the older idiots just looking for free loot.

I wonder if we could organize a community party where we could all go and hand out candy only to kids with costumes. :) Instead of going door to door, they'd go from table to table in a park or something and only be allowed in if they're in costumes. That way it's all well supervised and for the benefit of everyone who wants to be involved.

You might be on to something Kev... I'm sure a lot of parents with younger kids would be much happier with something like that (for safety reasons... and so they don't have to traipse all over the neighbourhood in the cold ;) ). Is there a community association in your neighbourhood? Or maybe you could work something out with the library or one of the schools that's nearby (or the community centre if you've got one... or a local church...)

If enough people got involved it could be a bit of a party, too... with bobbing for apples and all those icky things that were around when I was younger... like those things where you put your hands into a box to feel 'brains' (canned spaghetti) or 'eyeballs' (peeled grapes) or the like. Free to all children in costume, donations to the food bank welcome.
